Hello and good morning!
There’s a never-ending drum roll of rain hitting the rooftop far above my head. It’s cozy and comforting but also annoying because I know I’ll have to walk through the downpour to get to physio today, and then again when I go home. Thankfully, I have these great new chunky-heeled waterproof boots that I am in love with.
Speaking of rain—the lack of sunlight has really been hitting me. Remember to take your vitamin D pills, because if you live in Canada you are not getting enough vitamin D.
In other news, I turned 24 yesterday. I spent the day eating crepe cakes, making homemade dumplings in front of the TV (Xrystos and I are addicted to the Japanese reality show Terrace House), and not much else. It was really nice, especially after my very intense Black Friday shopping spree.
My high school friends also took me out to Tocador, a new Cuban restaurant that has fantastic tapas and drinks. I’d highly recommend a visit with friends—it’s the perfect place to unwind after a long workweek.
But enough about random life bits. In more blog-related news, I am very behind on my book reviews. I’ve opted to not actually write reviews for all the books I’ve read this year, but here are a few that I’m planning to write before the year is out:
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green
Circe by Madeline Miller
The Fairy Tale Museum by Susannah Smith
Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames (I’ve actually finished a review for this one, I just don’t have a photo to go with the post)
How have you enjoyed your reading this year? Any standout favourites? Let me know—I’m always curious.
Hopefully you’ve also been having an okay time with life lately. If not, I hope you have something good planned for yourself—even if it’s just a trip to your favourite cake store. (Also, vitamin D!)
Here is this week’s whimsy, just for you.
Are you familiar with the poetry of Hera Lindsay Bird? It’s amazing. Here is Bird’s poem “Monica,” of FRIENDS fame, for a taste.
Discovered ethical fashion brand Christy Dawn a while ago and fell in love with this dress.
The cutest Totoro pancakes to try at home sometime.
A gorgeous Friendsgiving spread. I know Thanksgiving is over, but just thought I’d share a little fall beauty anyway.
“People are always mad at women for not properly accepting compliments, but maybe most people just suck at giving them.” Not a whimsical article/conversation, but one that’s been on my mind.
Never really my goal to chat about my industry (I work in advertising), but this was so fun and cool and food-related.
Being cooped up because of the weather has made me want to cook more, and watching Terrace House has made me want to cook more Japanese food, so I used my birthday money to pick up Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art by Shizuo Tsuji and Tokyo Cult Recipes by Maori Murota. Wish me luck!
